Times Are Harder Than "Normal" In Haiti
As you may know, this has been a time of political crisis throughout Haiti, with many protests producing a “shutdown” of an already weakened economy. The Grison-Garde area where Maranatha is located has received critical deliveries of food through our (your) foundation. Funds have been received from Facebook campaigns, individual gifts and our own budget. This food distribution has been selective and directed by our Haitian coordinators to the most needy families in the area. A typical food pack contains: rice, beans, canola oil and flour and a pack of vitamins.

Nurse Lovelie Joseph "I Have Their Blood and They Have Mine"
Those are the written words of our Lovelie Joseph, raised from early childhood at the orphanage and now a skilled nurse taking care of all the Maranatha schools, old folks project and orphanage. Her words sound poetic because they are poetic. She has also said that working with our medical teams and those visiting the school “will still burn in my heart” after you leave. She speaks with the spirit of Haiti, unmistakably real. Her words are spoken clearly and strongly and from her deepest heart: Haiti.

Chicken-Egg Project
Work on the chicken-egg project has finally begun. Directed funding for this effort has been offered by a chicken fancier here in the US to pay for construction and purchase of Haitian hens that are specifically bred for these tropical conditions (answering the age-old question of which comes first….). A nearby school project has been successful in producing up to 70 eggs a day! Imagine the food value for our primary students, orphans and old folks living in the cottages at the elder project! A professional agronomist will oversee the project. This also offers and excellent educational for our students.

Remember it is VERY easy to launch a Facebook Fundraiser, and it can be very effective with a just a few shares! Facebook friends fed hundreds of very hungry people. And when we say "fed," we don't mean a meal or two. We mean substantial food security for entire families during a period of great need. We wouldn't have asked for it if it was not needed. We are asking again. (As a reminder, $25 is a good week's pay in Haiti; $2500 provides a safe, clean water supply for a whole village. We have additional facts here.)
